'11 Trek Fuel EX 5

Open up a whole new level of fun and step up your trail skills with the Fuel EX 5. Combined with Trek's Full Floater and ABP designs, the Fuel feels like it has way more than its 120mm of travel in the rough stuff, yet when pedaling hard on smooth trails, it feels quick and lively. A Fox shock and a RockShox Recon coil up front make the hits simply disappear underneath your wheels. Complementing the trick frame is a slick-shifting SRAM drivetrain, a host of durable Bontrager components and powerful Avid Juicy disc brakes for maximum stopping power regardless of the conditions. Plus, the light Bonty wheels and tires tackle buffed-out singletrack, rocky gardens and everything in between.

Comments:

I've taken this bike thru sheer torture since purchased new at Victorville cycles on 9/17, and it still comes back for more. From 8 mile fire-road downhills, to technical single trail, this bike does it all. Still have yet to retune, since it's just that solid. I love it!

    Comments:

Ride urban trails, XC and single track and love bike as it is capable, fast and shifts smoothly. Stock tires are loud at speed on pavement and not very good in mud. Replace if planning to ride muddy trails and climb slippery slopes. I noticed a slight rear disk squeal first day and minor front disk rubbing under fast hard cornering on hard surfaces. Minor issues overall compared to upside of this bike. Ride bike 4/5 times per week 80-160 km.

    Comments:

i have the 2010 model and i've taken it on all day epic rides to downhilling at a ski resort to technical trail riding and it handles it all very well. the one hiccup i had was the weight so i upgraded the fork and wheels (went tubeless) and this thing rides even better now. i just got into mountainbiking this year and started with a hardtail, but the trails and terrain i was doing pretty much drove me to a full suspension bike and boy was i glad i upgraded. this thing handles everything i've thrown at it so far. for the price point it's hard to complain about the components but this bike is truly only a few components away from being a very capable bike.

    Comments:

For the price, best buy in my opinion. Try to use it every day at various trials near where I live and it rides like a champ! Only fault is the rear derailleur cable gets stuck around the front suspension switch, and actually tore the housing. Had to replace housing and tie it to the frame. Other then that, no complaints.

A great bike at a great price. Really have nothing to fault for an entry level full suspension bike. Handles well and has a plush ride. I like it.

        Comments:

Good bike. I use it for recreational riding daily. I like how it handles in the woods (cross country). One thing that isn't great about this bike is the fact is that it's heavy for its size. The gear cable on the rear derailer wraps around the switch for the front suspension and switches it to stiff riding mode.

Very nice bike for the money. It's replacing my old NRS 3 that was stolen. Components are definitely better than my old bike, however it seems heavier that what I was used to. I have yet to really beat the bike on the trails, but from what I have done - it's exceeded my expectations. Overall, the bike is very solid and I couldn't be happier!
