'12 Trek Madone 3.1

For years now, Trek's Madones have set the standard for excellence, winning everything from local races to Grand Tours. The full-carbon 3.1 is made from 300-Series OCLV carbon with a Bontrager Race carbon fork. This frameset is light, stiff and comfortable because the folks at Trek are masters at the material, they do it right. The solid components are chosen for their combo of durability, reliability and straight-up value like the 10-speed Shimano drivetrain with SRAM compact cranks and Bontrager controls and wheels. The geometry is smack-dab in the middle between upright and aggressive racer, it's neutral without feeling dull; fast, without being twitchy.

Comments:

I went to the 3.1 from a trek 1000, seems that there is a difference in shifting, smooth cornering, proformance. This bike handles great and is supper for having fun. I did change the seat and adjusted the handle bars up to fit me. It would be easy to make this bike go even faster by changing chain rings or sprockets but I like what I now have.

Wasn't sure about the move to carbon for the extra money.. but wow.. what a great ride, handles the rough road like butter!! this bike just eats hills up.. hills are accually fun now!! and miles just fly buy.. I had a 1989 trek 1000 and did 500 miles a year. My wife wanted to buy a new bike for my birthday! But i couldn't justify it. Am I coco!! My 89 trek was just fine. until my back rim cracked!! then test rode the 3.1 and that was it!! It was just a bike ride before now it's an adventure!! cant stop riding!! To a fellow biker who's not sure just do it!! Cause I went back an forth.. I can't thank my wife enough!!! I'll say it like this remember movies in beta and vcr tape!!! well they became a little disk dvd!! thats the difference in the technology.. Between my old bike a this modine 3.1 happy biking!!

I am currently new to the world of road biking, but I bought this bike a couple of weeks ago and could not be happier. The bike is extremely light and handles well. I expect that it will last me a long time. The crankset is very responsive. This bike is fast. The gears shift easily.

I love this bike. It's nice and light, responsive and fast. Just needs some tuning on the gears a bit as all bikes do so will be bringing it in soon to the local [...] store. Big thanks to the staff at the [..] location too!, they're very knowledgable, experienced and so friendly.
