I used the Mamba on the following MTB ride and it handled well http://youtu.be/GBKTujWYQdMI had a lot of fun using this product and it was my first mountain bike

Great bike for the price. The Mamba has the same frame and geometry as the Trek 29er Race collection bikes that are more expensive and of course with better components. If you can afford it go with the better bikes or you can do what I did, upgrade the components slowly and get what you want. Over the past year I have change the drive train to a 1x9 with a SRAM X9 derailleur and shifter, wheel set to Crank Brothers Cobalt XC, Crack Brothers Egg Beaters, ODI Rouge grips and Bontrager Team Issue tires. I have never had any major issues with the bike and like anything else I take care of it and check it before and after every ride.

Comments:
The handling and geometry of a 29er really make a difference out on the trail. You are easily able to overcome obstacles that would be trying on a 26" bike. The only downside to this bike is that it is not trail ready. It has terrible brakes and a headset that has come loose on the two times that I have had it off road. I am upgrading those components and it should be fine. Beware that bike is not trail ready as is.

Comments:
The bike itself is very good, however Trek made the mistake of including a horrible stem and very weak brakes on this model. The brakes are barely adequate, even after a bleeding from the LBS. The stem comes loose during each trail ride, despite an inspection from the LBS, I have two other mountain bikes and have NEVER had this issue, each of these bikes are ridden on the same trails. For safety reasons I would not recommend this bike unless you plan on switching the brakes and stem right off, which is what I am now going to do.

I have had several Treks, some more expensive but I enjoy this one more than any other one. Wish the seat were more comfortable but that's an easy fix.
