At Velogear, we're all about bikes. We love riding them, reading about them and fixing them. And when bikes are on TV, we love watching them. We want to make it easy for you to indulge your love of cycling, too. We stock cycling clothing from the best brands in the sport, along with books, DVDs, parts, accessories and more. We want to be your one-stop shop for all things cycling!
Bontrager calls the Race Road Shoes their entry-level model, but there's nothing entry-level about their features. These fine shoes boast carbon-reinforced soles so every watt of your precious power goes into forward motion. And, because power is nothing without comfort, the Races sport Bontrager's customizable eSoles, breathable InForm uppers and also molded heel cups. And, you'll love how you can find a perfect fit and feel every ride with the ratcheting buckles and Velcro straps.
Upgraded my standard shoes to these and love them. Easy to use and wear, and very comfortable.

I bought these to replace my old mountain biking diadoras (which I loved and often wore all day at work because they were really comfy) and I was worried about going to a new brand, with the new strap (no laces?) and they looked stiff.
But, they have become my new favorites. They provide a great snug fit every time, and I now find that I can't get my old shoes tight enough, where these shoes are really snug, and fast to put on and take off. Obviously they are hard to walk in, but I will often walk a few blocks in them, and they are fine. The new "snow board" boot type zip strap works great, and after a year is still perfect. I would never go back to laces after this shoe.
I had a lot of questions about this shoes durability, and after having them for a year now I thought I would write a review to tell everyone that they are still almost brand new after a year (about 4,000Kms). Love them.

The Bontrager Race Road shoes simply do what they're supposed to, do it well, and do it with extreme comfort and grace. I decided to get a new pair of shoes after my Northwave Aerators lost their novel appeal (and the soles were bunching up!), [...] Bontrager has higher level shoes, but I found the benefit-to-cost difference to be an exercise in hair splitting. Unless you counting grams in weight, these shoes are the way to go! They've got all the specs of all the top-end shoes, save full carbon features (though they do have partial carbon/lightweight nylon outsoles--great stiffness and still lightweight--lighter than my Northwaves!). The only thing I can't comment on is the durability, as I've only used them a few times--performance wise, your first trial of a shoe will tell you all you need to know; cycling shoes don't "break in" like running shoes. So I can say that these outperform my top-end Northwaves, hands down. The eSoles insoles are AMAZING--they really set apart these shoes from the outset. I was skeptical about breathability (a major plus with my Northwaves), but I was pleasantly surprised. While they did not feel like the air was running through my toe hair (mmm...), they definitely provided enough breathability for my preferences. They are actually probably the perfect balance for a four-season shoe, if you're not too much of a snob! Comfort overall is unmatched! Anyway, that's my two cents. Buy them; you won't be sorry.
