At Velogear, we're all about bikes. We love riding them, reading about them and fixing them. And when bikes are on TV, we love watching them. We want to make it easy for you to indulge your love of cycling, too. We stock cycling clothing from the best brands in the sport, along with books, DVDs, parts, accessories and more. We want to be your one-stop shop for all things cycling!
How fast, how far, and how long? Bontrager's Trip 4W computer displays current, average, and maximum speed, current and total mileage, ride time, and a clock. It does all this without wires for a clean-looking front end, too. The Trip 4W is all about versatility, it records data for 2 wheel sizes so you can use it on your road and mountain bikes and you can mount it to your bars or your stem.
I use this on my mountain bike as well as road bike. The display is very easy to read. The trip info is easily reset when you're ready to go on a new ride. I really enjoy the product.
My 2 gripes are the poor instructions and the buttons working. Though the instructions are junk and confusining... Any person with common sense can put this thing on in 10 min without them. If we were building an airplane, sure I'd want clear instructions. But since we're just slapping a bike computer on a bike, no biggy.
Issue number 2 is the button that you press to cycle through the various features... It doesn't work every time. 9/10 times it do though.

Comments:
This product is of poor quality, poor design, has horrible instructions, and unfortunately has reared its ugly head at your favorite bicycle shops. Besides the wireless feature that itself is relatively huge as well as overly sensitive, it is just generally a lousy product. If you read the rest of the reviews ripping this product, you should have already made up your mind. Don't waste your money.

The instructions are terrible. Does not make any sense. The only way I figured it out was to google the device and there is a youtube video from a bike store demonstrating how to put it together. The installation is actually very simple once you have been given proper instructions.
So far for me it is accurate and I like the wireless function. The video says the sensor must be within a forearms length from the computer, just under the brakes - maybe that's why some people are having problems with the reading

Junk !!! The instructions are terrible when it comes to operating the unit. The unit would not reset trip functions. The only way I could make it operate was to do a master reset every time I rode. Then I would loose all data. Tried to contact Bontrager and guess what….There is NO PHONE NUMBER PUBLISHED for them. Check their website. They finally responded to my emails and told me to read the instructions…Now that's customer service! I returned it.

... make installation way more frustrating than it ought to be. Manual eschews words for simple pictures. Simple, inaccurate pictures. Online manual is somewhat more comprehensive but still head-scratchingly incomplete. Once you get it on, operation is straightford, display is easy to read. Battery life TBD. Note: Get that sensor close (2mm) and line it up with the white line on the pointy/flat portion of the transmitter (not the center of it as pictures suggest)

Worst instructions - hard to set

This was a gift from my daughter. Mounting took longer than necessary as literature didn't even mention rubber shims. I mounted two places on bar and tried wire ties before I noticed rubber pads - then mounted ok. Directions on included literature didn't explain how to mount. Printed more detailed instructions online but they didn;t explain either. Display would pick up info from wheel - took to bike shop that sold it. They fixed in couple minutes - the way they adjusted was not in any instruction. Also, I've followed instructions but don't get the results mfgr says. Maybe my unit is newer/older than instructions.

NOT a good choice

Recommended by the bike store salesperson. Had Cateye in the past and now really wish I had stuck with them. Agree that button presses are very finicky ...no consistency on the duration needed to advance to the next display. As a result, in screwing the buttons and in trying to reset for new rides, I have now entered into the wheel size and odo reset mode unintentionally 2 times and getting the settings back right is not intuitive even with the manual in hand - Never had that problem with past computers. Can't understand why any bike store sells this unit

Not sure what everyone else was talking about with battery problems, I still have the battery it came with in mine and have had it on 3 different bikes now. It works great and I have had no problems with it at all. My guess is most people do not have the sensors close enough and that is why they can't get it to read all the time. Mine has never done anything they have said with not working properly. Only bad thing I can say is that is does not glow in the dark when I'm riding at night.
