At Velogear, we're all about bikes. We love riding them, reading about them and fixing them. And when bikes are on TV, we love watching them. We want to make it easy for you to indulge your love of cycling, too. We stock cycling clothing from the best brands in the sport, along with books, DVDs, parts, accessories and more. We want to be your one-stop shop for all things cycling!
How fast, how far, and how long? Bontrager's Trip 5W computer displays current, average, and maximum speed, current and total mileage, ride time, a clock and temperature with a back light so you can see it during your early morning rides. It does all this without wires for a clean-looking front end, too. The Trip 5W is all about versatility, it records data for 2 wheel sizes so you can use it on your road and mountain bikes and you can mount it to your bars or your stem.
Had the bike shop install in on the new bike for free, so I can't speak to the installation difficulties, but it didn't take them very long (~10 minutes). Easy to read and use, nice looks. not too big but easy to read.

The directions are garbage there is a great video on YouTube that takes you step by step (posted below). As for screwing down the unit to the handlebars be gental make sure the screw is lined up and it should go together smoothly without resistance. If you do that you shouldn't be stripping anything.

Have your LBS install it for you. I did. Features work great. Bummed that the backlight only stays on for 5 seconds but that saves battery so its understandable. Overall a great computer for the price.

i'll have to agree with the above. This instructions are garbage. The magnet screw also was stripped off and usless immediatly. Also the handlebar mounts don't fit properly, and the backlight ( the main reason i got it ) only stays on for 5 seconds, not much time to get anything done while your riding. you almost have to stop, press it for two seconds to get the backlight to turn on, then really quickly look at the info before it turns itself back off... usless.

The Manuel leaves you wondering if you installed it correctly. While installing... I stripped the plastic threads on the magnet. Between the plastic threads on the magnet and the instructions not telling me how to properly install the sensor... I'm not sure if the computer is broken or installed wrong. It gives me the time of day and the temperature outside. The sad thing about that... It's hard to read. I have to stop the bike, turn the back light on and "shade" the computer to read the time and temperature.

Luckilly I installed a wired cateye computer 15 years ago so I didn't need the confusing instructions. Otherwise I could give it 5 stars.
Has lots of functions, the backlight works for night. The wireless feature makes installation and adjustment a breeze.

I'll agree that the instructions are ridiculously primitive, that being said my local Trek Store installed mine free of charge. Once its installed, the Trip is easy to read, accurate, everything it should be. Trek REALLY needs to print better instructions, or at least put some instillation videos online...then I could give it 5 stars

The installation took nearly two hours thanks to the ill-fitting handlebar mount and cheap magnet. The magnet's lock stripped out even before it was tightened. I can't say much about the computer itself; I never got to riding with it.
