One of the favorites of the Pro peloton, Conti's Grand Prix 4000 brings a host of innovations never before seen in the world of bike tires. The tread pattern has been moved to the shoulders to increase traction in the corners. Tread wear indicators show the wear rate of the tire, eliminating guessing. The ultimate highlight however, is the use of Vectran. It's a polymer membrane that offers puncture protection and reduces rolling resistance, all at a race-ready weight. Also, the Black/Blackwall, Black/Transparent, Black/Reflex and Conti Yellow versions also contain Continental's Black Chili Compound for improved wear, traction and rolling resistance.
I still come back to this tire everytime. There are very few tires on the market where you can comfortable race them in a 4 corner crit (drop about 10psi from leisure ride psi) and use in the off season for training and social riding. Recommend using baby powder on your tubes when installing the 4000 in addition to soapy water on the bead when installing; ensures a complete bead seat. I've run them as low as 85psi and I weight 180lbs, for crits using a 25c size.(measures 26.4mm actually)
