Often, cycling's eras are chronicled by the champions of the day. That early-2000s era? The Armstrong Era. The late 1960s to late 1970s? The Eddy Merckx Era.
But what about the Renato Longo Era? The Italian cyclocrosser could be found on the world championship podium quite often from 1959 to 1969. Renato won the rainbow stripes in 1959, 1962, 1964, 1965 and 1967. He was second in 1961 and 1963 and third in 1969.
