Saris Bones RS (3-Bike)

The Bones RS is Saris' premium rear rack. This amazing bike carrier utilizes a pair of steel-belted bands and a ratcheting system for a solid attachment to your vehicle. The rubber-coated clips and feet keep your auto's paint scratch-free. The pivoting anti-sway bike mounts keep up to 3 bikes from banging into each other. Plus, an integrated locking system makes sure your rides stay secure.

I own one of these and sell them. This rack is as good as it gets for a trunk rack. Make sure that your car is compatible through the Saris fit system. Make sure you don't over-tighten the ratchet, as I've seen them dent trunks. I've seen a couple of defective ones (always the ratchet), but Saris takes care of that immediatly. All of that being said, it's the easiest to install car rack out there. Once the initial set-up is done installing it is as easy as pulling up on the ratchet. There's nothing else to think about, no straps to tension against each other. It works for 3 bikes, assuming all the have a level top tube. Otherwise, it's best for 2.

        Comments:

As a newer biker, I wanted to ensure that I was getting good and solid equipment. After a very short period, no more than 4 months, one of straps fell off the bike rack. We attended the bike expo and were able to locate a rep(I believe one of the owners of Saris) and made him aware of the situation. It was evident that he was not even slightly concerned or apologetic about the issue. He was however able to provide us with a replacement strap which he pulled off of another bike rack. Unfortunately not even 3 months later another strap fell off of the rack. We are firm believers of supporting local/regional businesses and I am sorry to say that this was certainly a miss for us on two counts.

I loved this rack when I first got it. Very stable and easy to use. After one year the right ratchet started slipping and now I can't use the rack. The ratchet assemblies are an Achille's heel for this otherwise excellent product. Unless the ratchet mechanisms have been upgraded I would caution consumers not to buy this product.

          Comments:

I bought rack in 2010. It fit my Mercury Mariner great. It appeared to be the dream rack I had been looking for. I used it maybe 20 times and then the ratchet mechanism on right side started slipping. For as much as this thing costs, I would hope that it would last longer than barely a year. Saris offers a warranty, but it costs about a third of the value of the rack just to ship it. Not to mention that more likely than not, the warranty claim will be refused. As much as I loved this rack (in the beginning), I will not buy another, nor recommend others to buy it.
