It all started with a homebrew kit and a love for great beer. Dick Doore received the kit from his brother for Christmas in 1990. A few years later, he met up in Colorado with Eric Wallace, a college buddy. By early 1994, Left Hand Brewing Company was in business.
Since then, Left Hand Brewery has grown from a local sensation to multi-national powerhouse. The Longmont, Colo.-based brewery is home to 15 medals from the Great American Beer Festival, eight medals from the World Beer Cup (including two gold medals for its Milk Stout), three medals at the European Beer Star, and one gold medal from the International Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival. Why "Left Hand?" It's in honor of Chief Niwot, whose Arapahoe tribe used to winter in the area. Niwot is the Arapahoe word for "left hand."
