Greg LeMond wins a stunning victory over his team leader, French superstar and furious competitor Bernard Hinault, in a grueling race. Hinault, one of cycling's all-time greats, had expected to make this race his record-setting sixth Tour de France win. Most of France was thinking likewise. LeMond, magnificently, proved them wrong.
