I Love This Bike

Comments:

I bike a lot, but this was an upgrade from my 5 speed Raleigh Sprite, so my standards may be different from the average reviewer's. This is a sturdy, very well built bike, that handles hillls well (I live in the mountains). It's a pleasure to ride. We have quite a few gravel roads in the area; it handles them just fine as well. It's not in the speed demon class, but the gearing lets you move out smartly. It's been a delight to ride, and in my opinion, delivers excellent value for the price, and comfort for my 60 year old frame.

This is the first "nice" bike I have owned. What a difference. I had an old Murray that I thought I liked. But the weight difference and the smoothness is amazing. Thanks to Trek and the Wheel and Sprocket guys!!

Excellent compromise between comfort and efficiency. The upright seating position, sprung seat and suspended fork provide a smooth, comfortable ride. Yet it's an efficient, fast roller that can cover miles with ease. The overall ride feels effortless, balanced and composed. Impressive attention to detail for this price range.

Bought my 7100 from Lee's Cyclery in Fort Collins, CO. Oct 2011 and I love it!!! Bought it mainly as a commuter bike to and from campus but with the addition of Bontrager NCS full fenders, rack with Bontrager Interchange trunk basket and this bike is doing it ALL! Gives a nice comfortable ride going up to a decent speed with relative ease. The Interchange trunk is the best accessory I have ever put on a bike! Wasn't sure about it at first but now I wouldn't be without it! Added so much flexibility can just pop it off, flip up the handle and it turns into a great grocery store hand basket. Pop it back on and your on the road. Thanks to all the guys a Lee's loved the service and taking the time to get me on this bike! It was by far the best choice for me and It's gotten me on the road 10x more than I was before! Thanks guys!

              Comments:

This is my first ever "real" bike-shop bicycle (rather than a cheap department store bike) and I LOVE it! Several friends recommended a Trek Hybrid to me and now I see why. I just wanted a bike that would be fun to ride for relaxation purposes and I can't imagine one that would fit the bill better than this one. Mine is in a paint scheme that Trek calls "root beer" adding to it's charm. If you're in the market for a Hybrid, look no further than Trek's 7000 series bikes. Happy cycling!

              Comments:

I bought this as a grocery getter with a set of trk panniers and rack for the rear. After 6 years of screwing with this JUNK i tossed tha panneriers in the trash. not looking for ortliebs. I had nothing but problems with the trek rear panniers hitt my size 12 feet or flopping into the spokes.Onne i ditched thiose i started to put real milage on the bike. 18 mile evening rides on the beach path are the norm with a 40 to 50 milr ride on the weekend. The stock seat i though was not too great until i broke it (after 15K miles) and had to find a ne one. I tried a specialized gel seat, and a brooks (one what torture that thing was. B 17 stands for Butt death 17 ways. I found that the original design is still available locally as is a gel version.Have done a metic century plus (on which i broke the seat) and had NO complaints. I got a Lot of stares as the road bike club types though I was crazy and it really got to them that i was only 2 mph slower. (did the metric in 4 hours.)\\Fine on dirt parts and even sand (just not deep)does not climb well on loose surfaces.Issues. original design seat post fatigue craked..BAD design. new post redesigned to reduce stress concentration.Rear wheel weak replaced after severe bending with no name wheel from bike shop ..I said make it stronger. no problems since.Brake levers self destructed this year. All in all a darn good chaep to own and fix bike.I recently compared this to a Surley LHT, and two Novara touring bikes, and a bruce gordon BLT and the specalized sirrusFolks this is a better touring light touring bike Rear panniers will hold food (if you pack more than two days you are somehow ignorant of the fact that every town has a market.) water, tools, kit, tent and the like. After all I have backpacked for a week with a 30 pound pack (no water) why should i have that much on a bike? The trek steered better than the novaras and surly, which were slow steering (like a 54 buick) and faster than the specialized. The Bruce was a better steerer but cost a bundle. All of the aftermentioned bikes were smoother i grant that BUT the trek has been fine for 50 to 75 mile days esp after i adjusted the bars higher.I paid [$] for this back in 2003. Best [$] i have spent

                Comments:

Recently bought the Trek 7100 for road/ light off road use after using a rather combersome mountain bike for some time. I find the bike to be really comfortable and quite nippy. It builds up speed well but would benefit from a more extended gear range for faster on-the-level riding. The tyres are fine but tend to 'clog' a little with fine grit stones when riding the Pennine Trail. Would definately recommend this bike as a good quality 'all-rounder' with its commuting/light recreational bias.

                Comments:

I LOVE this bike! I bought it in Debrecen, Hungary - see previous review. I took it on a road trip for seven weeks through parts of Italy, Spain, France and Belgium. Against the advice of Trek I put on front Panniers. It was rigged but worked fine. I loaded this bike heavily - even a guitar! I put on combo pedals to lock in bike shoes and ride with regular shoes for casual city riding. My original pedals broke before this trip. It didn't matter for me as I needed bike shoe pedals. I don't love the back sprocket - it does not allow for smooth shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. There is a big gap. I'll change it. I put on high quality brake shoes and the stopping power is almost as good as discs. The tires were good for this trip. I was on gravel, sand, cobblestone, pavement, mud, etc... I always feel that this bike is an extension of my body. A couple of mods makes it perfect. For the average user it should be good without modification. I gave it a workout and it totally won my heart. Thank you Trek!
