    Comments:

Riding for the past couple months has been a lot of fun. I commute to work now 2 miles one way. Wed and Sat rides are a anywhere from 26 to 63 miles each. Only things I added were, lights, computer and an aerobar. I won't wear cycling clothes (lame). Max speed so far has been 28.9 mph. average speed on the flats is anywhere from 17 to 22 depending on the wind and how much I ate the night before. I really enjoy keeping up with cyclists in their fancy outfits and expensive road bikes. Some people get get a little annoyed when they come up to a light and get passed by me on my relatively inexpensive bike. (although I have been passed by a few guys on their $7000 bikes). So for the money, this is a GREAT bike. GIven a decent bike like this...it's not the bike, it's the motor that runs it. I can outrun most cyclists on this bike from 50 feet to 50 miles. Now that's fun!

2010 FX 7.3, 22.5". Purchased in July 2010 after 25 years off a bike, and have put on 1300 miles on rails-to-trails (Katy in MO and North Bend in VA), Centuries, and local roads since. Tested Trek and Sp...d lines around this price point and up to 1K, and this model REALLY stood out: the component improvements over the 7.2 are WELL worth the money: smoother shifting, ride is faster and more comfortable, much better tires. My additions: Replaced the seat with a racing gel model (great improvement for me, YMMV); Replaced the grips with clamp-type ergo bar ends (no slippage, highly recommended); Brake pads with soft salmons (NO rim grinding, better stopping power, highly recommended) and pedals with SPD type (improves power and distance riding). Added rack and panniers for errand runs and grocery shopping. Shifting is very smooth, and the drivetrain noticeably quieter than other bikes--almost silent. Geometry and equipment are closer to that of a road bike than a comfort or hybrid, and that's perfect for me. Gearing has ultra-low 1.8 for those long hills, and 8.8 for high speed runs--I drop lots of people on hills! Ride is smooth at full tire pressure even on rail trails, and the 700x32 tires are tough (not one flat!) but fairly speedy and a good compromise for road/trail rides. I'd buy them again. Choose your sizing carefully; I'm 6.0' 175lb, and got the 22.5" but might go for 25" today: longer top tube length for more agressive riding position. Still works well me though. In short, I love this bike! It's a near-perfect all-around fitness/century rides/casual/commuter bike at a great price point! The compromises are intelligent and don't detract from it's flexibility and performance one iota. Component level is appropriate and good quality. I plan on adding an endurance-road type machine for next year, but I absolutely recommend the 7.3FX as your first (or only) bike. You won't be disappointed.

    Comments:

I have an 08 version in black. After replacing the seat and grips I have been very pleased with my purchase. The bike is not lite compared to a traditional road bike but much better weight wise than many mountain bikes that may share some of the same parts. The original tires where great until shlashed while locked up in front of local store. Had to get different tires because I could not locate the same tires it came with any more. I would recommend this bike but don't do as I did and pick the lower model for the minimal price difference. I would have saved money then(on the 7.6) compared to upgrading components after the fact.

    Comments:

I love my 2011 FX 7.3 since the day I got it less than 2 weeks ago. I bought this bike with the intention of getting regular exercise. I love everything about this bike, but of course there are some things I would like to see improved. This is the first bike I buy at a pro shop so I cannot really compare it to other fine bikes. However, I do notice that shifting from hi to low where you have to push the shifter with your thumb, if you push too hard you can actually shift 2 gears at once; you can imagine your feet jumping off the pedals when this happens. If you push just to where you hear the click on the shifter you are OK. The seat is not the greatest, but seats will always be very personal. I would've also liked the graphics a bit more attractive. You cannot read the TREK lettering unless you are close to it. And of course you want to show off to the world that you're riding a trek. Contrary to previous reviews, I feel brakes are fine, as long as you don't ride under the rain I guess. The handlebar grips have not twisted on me yet. While you will not win a race on this bike, I feel the bike is fast enough to keep up with other road bikes with drop handlebars, but I'm not there yet since I'm a begginer rider. Since I'm a heavy guy, I feel very good with the tire size. There is an 8-mile road in my town that the local riding club uses as their riding spot, and most of those guys take their bikes to that road in their cars and SUVs; I ride mine there from home which is about 4 miles away and back after riding those 8 miles. I doubt a regular race bike could jump off curbs and deal with the cracks on the pavement like my FX 7.3 can. I've riden my bike about 4 times now for a total of 70 miles approximately and love every minute of it. I'm like a little boy with a new toy and just wondering what equipment to put in it. I got my insulated water bottle, front and rear lights, under the seat pouch for my ID and cell, and a more comfortable suspension seat. I really recommend this bike to any person looking for a commuter bike or for someone wanting to get some exercise done. You will love it as I do.

    Comments:

The one and only downside of this bike is the seat. I replaced it with a nicer gel seat. It's a great exercise bike. We ride 20-35 miles four times a week. I had a heavier Trek (7100 WSD) and can't believe how much lighter and faster this bike is. You should buy this bike!

I ride 7 miles round-trip each day and enjoy every minute on this bike. Keep the drive train clean and the 7.3FX will reward you with years of fun, comfortable riding. Mine is a 2006 model and rides the same as the day I got it.

    Comments:

I've racked up 330mi in the 3 weeks I've had this bike, and I'm loving every minute of it. My only gripes are the hand grips twist, which is likely a fault of the person who put the bike together, and the front derailer isn't quite right, but that can be tweaked. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a less hardcore road bike, or a more hardcore hybrid.

    Comments:

I purchased this bike a little over one year ago and have put just under 4000 miles on it. It rides, looks, and shifts as smoothly now as the day I brought this beauty home. I ride about 100 to 150 miles per week and have a couple centuries and a 450 mile trip on it. I upgraded the seat, pedals, and put 25 mm tires on it to make it more comfortable and maximize speed on long rides. I have looked at more traditional road bikes, but none compare to the overall quality, design, and rideability of the 7.3. It is as close to perfect a bike as is made today
